I don’t understand how anyone could not enjoy an ice-cold coffee with a bit of sweet cream and a little sugar, I almost always suck that shit down like it’s the nectar of life itself, a large one will be gone within five minutes max routinely. Has almost nothing to do with the caffeine content either, I’ll do this with a decaf just the same.

Upvoted for being an actual unpopular opinion, but the kind of coffee definitely makes a difference! Not price, but a preference. I definitely like coffee, but not all coffee, I’m pretty picky. I’ve bought decent coffee and not had more than a sip before dumping it, but then cheap $2 can of shitty coffee grounds from Walmart I actually liked the taste of. More expensive ones I’ve had the same variations of experience with.

Most of what we call heart disease was “natural causes” a century ago. People don’t live forever and we’re just getting better at classifying it. I make my own coffee in a regular coffee maker (I don’t like the smell or taste of Starbucks, don’t do french press or Keurig), and I frequently add a little bit of cinnamon or nutmeg to the grounds before I brew and it adds a really nice flavor. If you’re concerned about the bitterness, the one thing you can do when making a pot of coffee is to add a small pinch of salt to the grounds. Guaranteed, you’ll find that it really smooths out the flavor (and no it does not make it salt).

I wonder how the suicide rate has been affected. I’d think it would go up a little due to economic stress like people losing work and depression from being stuck indoors. But then there’s also a little bit of relief that comes with the pandemic. Like not having to deal with work stress in the office, and a feeling like you finally have a good excuse to be a lazy shit and get nothing accomplished rather than feeling like you should be doing 1,000 different things but you aren’t and so ya think of yourself as a failure. But overall I’d think suicide would have increased this year significantly. Especially with all the job losses. I expect it will keep rising as the economic impacts hit harder and harder, and the Republican government refusing to do anything to help.

While I agree that I think most coffee lovers drink it for the poop regulation and just don’t talk about it, I challenge you to taste a cup made by a professional that matches your taste. Most coffee is prepared with the wrong method to match the grind, roast, water temp, and pressure (not to mention awful beans that are usually too old). Preparing coffee to make it taste as good as it smells is as difficult as scrambling eggs… correctly (in a way papa Ramsey wouldn’t be mad).

COLD BREW!!!!! Even Folgers is palatable when cold brewed. The heat leeches out acids and tannin’s from the coffee that make it bitter. You can achieve a smoother coffee when cooked at the correct temperature but you’re looking at an expensive machine that will temperature control that precisely. Cold-brew is a much cheaper solution. Also, green coffee is pretty good brewed either way but it’s much more expensive due to shelf life.

I’ve recently bought enough espresso equipment to realize that I have a real problem. The only other way to spend more money on drug paraphernalia is to home-brew. You apparently haven’t found your flavor, or simply don’t care enough about coffee. I enjoy my Freddo (which doesn’t smell) as much as my hot coffee and I will drink it even if it means having to hold back poop while out with friends. I really look forward to it every day I wake up but I am making it myself now and have become quite picky tbh but it’s worth it. As for the smell, I don’t like the smell of espresso. If it is a flavored blend for filter coffee, say caramel for example, then yes that indeed smells exceptional.

Backstory I use to be a barista, so different origins of coffee beans creates different blends either strong, sweet, and balance. I no longer try to find better-tasting coffee. But to be helpful if you like strong dark coffee go for more African blends aka Ethiopian, Kenyan beans. If you like more sweeter beans, south American beans, my favorite would be Columbian, Brazilian. For mild Asian origin, beans would be placed there.

The secret is to make sure you’re getting good coffee. I think a lot of people really underestimate the difference between a chain coffee shop vs. a local coffee shop. If I get coffee from Starbucks, I have to add milk and sugar because their beans taste too burnt for me (Has anyone ever actually noticed the tasting notes on a bag of Starbucks beans?). On the other hand, it’s easier to acquire the taste for coffee if you go to a decent third-wave specialty roaster, where their roasts are often lighter than mass-produced beans. I use Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and that shit straight-up tastes like blueberries, not coffee.

What changed it for me was realizing that bitter is just a taste like any other, and there’s nothing inherently “bad” about bitter taste. things that are too bitter don’t taste good, but that applies for the rest of the tastes too. I don’t like things that are too sour or too sweet either. You should try and find some good light roasted coffee. It can often be closer to tea in its taste. Kenyan and Ethiopian coffee that has been dried with the fruit. Tastes miles better than what your mom (most probably) serves.

Honestly, I find the bigger difference comes from how fresh the coffee is (how recently it was roasted). Roasting your own beans is a game-changer. Doesn’t have to be expensive beans. Or at least find a local shop that you can get freshly roasted beans. The stuff you buy at a local grocery store was probably roasted weeks, if not months, before. At the very least, don’t get pre-ground coffee. It starts to go stale within minutes of being ground. Oh, and good water makes a big difference in taste since coffee is mostly water. Use bad water, get bad coffee.

I love the taste of coffee, but I agree the smell is better than the taste That’s probably true for most aromatic things. I just get more out of the taste + consuming it than the then just smelling it. Lucky for me I get to enjoy all of it where you just get a small portion of it. I know you’re just fooling around, no offense here. My own two cents though – black coffee is the most delicious thing on this planet.
