That’s very unfortunate. Tungsten (or tungsten carbide) rings are very cool. I have one too. Incredibly hard and durable, they will not scratch. The one flaw is that they can be brittle, in that if you strike it the right (wrong?) way it can shatter, as you’ve demonstrated, I’m guessing it would depend on how well it was made. Correct me if this seems unusual for tungsten rings?

We bought black ceramic rings from Larson jewelers . com. I looked up a hardness chart online to compare metal strength and brittleness and etc. Decided to give ceramic a try. The above site has many options I think I paid about 350 for both after tax and shipping. They’re supposed to be just as durable and scratch-resistant. 2.5 years so far and no damage to mine. I’m constantly banging it on things too.

My dad broke his wedding ring when he was working on a car (he forgot to take it off). My mom got him a temporary replacement from a Walmart like store until it could be fixed. This is a common belief, but not true anymore. Emergency rooms have a little vice that can press the ring and gently crack it similarly to what happened to OP’s ring. This means they can be easier to remove than a metal ring which must be cut. I think the way they remove tungsten rings is to apply pressure with vice grips until it cracks (basically like it’s just done in the picture).
