I think the solution, on the other hand, is making the disillusioned voters realize that their vote matters and make politics and the system engaging, not forcing them into it. To educate the general populace on the importance of voting, and instill in them a civic duty to do so. To make voting easy and accessible, rather than a chore you have to do to avoid a penalty.

It’s honestly baffling to me and blatantly corrupt. In Australia where I live I can name 5+ places that are open to voting on election days in my 3km radius. Schools, rec centers, gym halls, etc. Max I’ve had to wait to vote was 3 minutes. We just had our Northern Territory election (population around 250k) and there were 38 polling locations. We will drive a fucking mobile polling booth out to some of the most remote communities on the fucking PLANET to make sure they can vote.

It actually does. People are forgetting Texas has strict rules of who can vote by mail. You have to be over 65, in jail, out of the county, or sick/disabled. It’s an asshole move by Greg abbot, but it also doesn’t matter as much as people think. The real travesty is that most people are required to vote in person and will continue to be. That’s half the point though. The mail-in restrictions get challenged in court so this crippling is also a backup to that.

He paid claimed $100k of hair and makeup styling (for ONE effing year!) for Ivanka as a biz expense. Apparently, he has less than $900k in liquid assets and he has 300M in debts coming due next year. He doesn’t own much property (except the golf courses and trump tower which are almost 100% leveraged). Every business he runs personally is failing except Trump towers. He makes money through licensing his name. Since all his property is almost fully mortgaged he really hasn’t any assets to speak of.

 

A person who avoids taxes is a TRUE PATRIOT though guys. Nothing says I love my country more than being a total burden and contributing nothing to society. No wonder the right loves him. He’s a total drain on the system. He has loans he has guaranteed that he cannot pay and will be due in the next 4 years. He will do anything he can to cheat because if he loses, he will have no way to pay the loans. If he stays in power he can try to weasel his way out. A President should not be in debt to anyone, it is a huge conflict of interest and it compromises the President.

Each of these companies should issue, on an annual basis, a form K-1 to all people and entities that own a percentage of them. The K-1 reports several different types of income or loss, all of which are totaled up on Form 1040 Schedule E, and taxes are levied on the balance of income reported. For people that own a lot of businesses, as Trump does, it can get complicated rather quickly.

There are people in my profession who are paid tremendous amounts of money to find legal ways for business owners to report the smallest amount of income and therefore pay the least amount in tax possible. Very wealthy people and corporations can have years in which they pay no income tax without being guilty of fraud. It’s possible. I don’t have enough information here to say for certain that Trump’s returns are fraudulent. I wouldn’t stake my status as a professional on such claims, in any case.
