I was so fortunate to have seen VH in concert in the 80s a number of times – I was a huge fan. Their discography was the soundtrack to my high school years. The news of his passing has brought back a flood of memories and got me in touch with my friends from high school to reminisce. Thanks for sharing your gift with the world EVH. Peace I’m kind of sad there are some comments on here that are just mean. Eddie died today. We lost a legend. All my respect and prays to his family. Thank you for sharing him for so many years.

This is me. I graduated from college during the downtime of the 2008 financial crisis. Had a hard time getting anything that wasn’t just bottom of the ladder lucky job. Yep. I have no fucking clue how to find a decent job again this time around. it took 5 years last time. the economy in my area is dead so I’m moving soon and that’ll help, but I’m hoping to find something WFH in the meantime before that happens. the competition right now thought with some 20-30m people unemployed is fucking cutthroat.and people are surprised when Millenials/gen-z make way too many suicides jokes Yeah, one of the things economists actually agree on is that if your poor the worst financial thing you can do is have a kid.

When I was a kid I lived in a situation with no future for myself and no hope. EVH made me interested in the guitar. From then on I had something to cling to that at least gave me something positive to aspire to. Guitar kept me in school and out of prison. A lot of people in my family were not so lucky. I never got as good EVH but I was able to parlay my love of guitar into a career and a business.

I absolutely adored this guy’s talent and even saw Van Halen live twice in my life. I think one of the best moments of my life was watching my idol shred the guitar right in front of me as I sat in the third row. The eruption blew my socks off when I first heard it and his talent is just immense. Now with this news, I feel like I should pick up the guitar again.

Before my daughter was born I and my wife (24ish) had about 5k saved up. Then she was born premmie and that 5k was gone. We haven’t had more than a few hundred bucks in our savings account since then. We are just one bad thing happening away from being totally fucked. In 1978 I went to this show as a total Sabbath fan. This somewhat unknown (to me anyway) group Van Halen warmed up. I left that show thinking Sabbath was crap (and they were, it was the Never Say Die! Tour) and blown away by Eddie. Eruption changed what I thought guitar plying was all about. RIP man.

My dad met Eddie Van Halen back in the 80s and used to tell me the story about how he came to his house one time. He said Eddie had a wacky and wonderful attitude, super upbeat and he tells my dad “hey I want to show you something”. He takes my dad around back to his recording studio and plays some him some background instrumentals of a new song.

I had kids at 25 and 27 and was doing pretty well. Then my husband got cancer and it wiped out all our savings on treatment and shit. Lost my home, car, and good credit and then he died. Had to file bankruptcy. I found a decent paying job after he died but I worked almost every night and every weekend and hardly saw them for the past 3 years. Shit sucks. You can work your ass off making someone else rich, and basically, daycare and public school raise your children. What the fuck are we doing.

How are people defending a medical system that bankrupts a young family due to cancer? How is there not an uproar against this broken system? I’m sorry I don’t want to upset anyone. I just want people to know it can and does happen. I don’t know why there isn’t more of an uproar. I think people are just defeated. It did radicalize me, and I’m doing what I can to organize people and try and push for reforms. Your story almost made me cry. Nobody should have to go through that.

True story… Van Halen was my first rock show. Diver Down tour. My friend’s sister drove. We parked and drank two beers in the parking lot. Then we went in, watched the show, and tried to sneak backstage after the show. I got in through the loading dock entrance. Friend’s sister was already inside, maybe.

I’m walking in the Long Beach Arena hallway behind the stage, and Diamond Dave struts right by me with two girls following. Losing a talent like him is absolutely terrible, but I always love seeing threads like this with people just sharing how one single person affected so much of their lives.
