The report on his Twitter account mentions that he got diagnosed with Stage III Colon cancer back in 2016. It’s amazing yet sad to see that he fought through all of that to provide us with the pieces of art such as Black Panther, Civil War, and the Infinity War films. His appearances in all movies have been so powerful, and this brings more power to him. It really is sad to see such an amazing man pass.

When Black Panther came out, there were a lot of stories of predominantly Black schools taking the students on field trips to see it. I “got” at the time how important representation was, but that message has really hit home this past year. That movie, and his performance in it, is the most significant contribution the MCU has made to film.
