I remember beater cars with bench seats, had a Mercury where the back wouldn’t stay up and I rigged it with an ice chest, no problems. But a few years ago I inherited a Ford from my aunt. Low mileage but it was mostly driven by her caretaker, who was 300 lbs or so. I don’t think she scooted-in all the way. And so the seat was worn in the center and on the door side, but not on the far side. So it forced me to sit a bit sideways.
