The headaches were devastating, I could barely move or stand up. I kept trying to get a hysterectomy approved to stop the headaches. It was 15 years, and a diagnosis of cervical cancer before I got my hysterectomy. The headaches stopped. A hysterectomy doesn’t always imply an ovariectomy (if it does it’s called a radical hysterectomy). You can remove the uterus without entering menopause, it’s the ovaries that produce the hormones. There could be other consequences of removing it. So I can understand most doctors would balk at a hysterectomy for birth control purposes. You’re right about doctors being wary of taking out a healthy organ. As for the age, the older you are, the less likely you are going. To regret it, so lots of doctors prefer to wait. For purely selfish reasons, they don’t want to feel responsible for hurting their patients.

Any doctor is rightfully wary of taking a healthy functioning organ out of the human body, they can be sued. By all means, I heartily approve of anyone who knows their mind and doesn’t want a child. OP notes she already has some mental health issues, as someone starting menopause, hormone cycles and production fuck with your head. I was going to say she may be able to get a tubal more easily. If she only wants it for birth control,a hysterectomy is an unreasonable step. If there is a medical reason, and she understands the consequences (menopause, libido), that is another situation.

I agree with you but wanted to note that sometimes the body’s natural hormone cycle is not a healthy or consistent one. I think it’s possible that some people with co-morbid mental illness might seek a hysterectomy because of the havoc it wreaks on their mental health to endure the natural hormone cycle. And in many cases, they would have the option of keeping their ovaries for continued estrogen production, or potentially even using hormone replacement therapy if their provider deems it appropriate. I know that menopause is no walk in the park and that it is brutal on mental health.
