Correct! It’s super heavy because of its fossilized. It turns into kind of a super compacted stone over time and it totally changes the density, making it heavier. I found a few mollusk fossils here in Texas and they are heavier than I expected. Significantly lighter as the fossil is rock. That being, just off of size alone it would be on the order of hundreds upon hundreds of lbs.
Hey South Dakotanologist, I have a question for you. I’ve been to the badlands a few times and they always tell us that the badlands are not old enough to have dinosaur bones, yet in the article, it says this was found in the South Dakota badlands. So, what gives?
