I live in a small mountain town, and while I do agree with you about not escalating and it could be way worse for him than you, please don’t automatically assume the hostess was being racist. My food orders, and husbands too, are messed up about 85% of the time. And the waiters and waitresses are rude af. Some of the stories would blow your mind. I’m actually wondering if you possibly were in my town, lol. Except that we do have the mask mandate. They just don’t care about their customers. And this one just seems like a rude asshole.

I may get some hate for this but like what you said about choosing your battles. As a person in an interracial marriage, I don’t see what this has to do with “Trumps America” moreso this is an issue of institutionalized racism that will, unfortunately, have to be slowly bleed out of this county and the world as a whole.
