Be polite as possible and ask them questions back, people generally like it if others are interested in them and what they’re saying so, be interested. They’ll talk about themselves and you’re off the hook while gaining a relationship with your neighbors. I think it’s not a superb way to reply as you don’t want to get involved in a strained relationship with your next-door neighbors since some people will see it as a rude manifestation when you are engaging in a conversation. Yeah knowing Reddit I’m reading this entire thread with a giant pinch of salt. Who are all these people with neighbors who ask “super invasive, personal questions”? Like what, what you do for a living? Where you lived before you moved here? I have to make small talk with people fairly often, and some of them clam the fuck up at innocuous questions like “do you have any pets?” I get the hint pretty quickly and leave them alone
