I’m the exact same way OP, and here’s my advice: try it affogato (over ice cream). I can’t explain why it changes the flavor so much, because no amount of sweetener added to a cup of coffee or a shot of espresso makes it palatable for me, but for some reason, it’s fucking delicious over ice cream. you’ve honestly just had shit coffee. It’s not all the same just as not all cars are the same. You can’t drive a lawnmower and say all vehicles are slow.
Coffee can taste soooo good, but making good coffee is such a pain in the ass. Once you’ve found your preferred brewing method and ratios, a good cup of coffee can still take so much work. I went from “pour over” with no measurements using a grocery store plastic pour-over cone and a blade grinder to a modest manual espresso set up with an entry level electric conical burr grinder and a v60 routine for regular coffee. With everything going on in the world, I really got into coffee and have a lot of fun with it.
