Not only did this guy illegally stop this kid, but the kid is also so aware that this is life and death for him that he apologized and did what the guy said. This is the result of racism. The guy is empowered to do this to a good teenager who’s just living his life, and the kid has no choice but to go along because he knows he may die if he doesn’t. We’re still living in a country where black men have to choose between living and sticking up for their rights.

Just to drive this point home: Black Americans have been giving this same talk and teaching these same lessons to our children for literally HUNDREDS OF YEARS. Generation after generation of parents desperately trying to keep their children safe from slave masters, overseers, lynch mobs, police, and random racist vigilantes like this shitwad. When these stories come up I always say the #1 priority is to stay alive. Swallow your pride, take the momentary loss, do whatever it takes. But stay alive. Glad this kid is still with us to tell this terrible story.
