up, or as they used to say in the south “Know your place”. That’s what’s most important. And that’s essentially what The Talk boils down to. Black parents teaching black children that regardless of what year it is, in the US if it comes to a confrontation with police or someone white on an authority trip, make sure you can demonstrate that you know your place. And that you’re a lesser citizen that doesn’t have full rights and protections of the US – and your life can be taken from you if you don’t demonstrate you know this. We need to discuss The Talk for what it is, and what it says about.

And honestly, many white folks need to be aware of this, especially those who have biracial kids (and even further, those who have biracial kids and that black parent isn’t present) because yall don’t know what it’s like to be black here. I always felt BLM affects everyone and not just for black folks. That’s their brown kid/niece/nephew/cousin/grandkid/friend out there.
