In Sunday school, one of my group leaders explicitly told us that sex outside of marriage was a sin but sex inside of marriage is a form of worship to God. Pissed me right off (even as the 13 YO I was at the time) as even then I realized how ridiculous it is to suggest that signing a piece of paper so fundamentally changes a romantic act from sin to worship. To answer your question, it’s because the Bible explicitly teaches that sex outside of marriage is a “sin “and those who engage in it will “not inherit the kingdom of God.” And Premarital sex is pretty much the most common “sin” teenagers will engage in. So, Christians that take the source material for their religion seriously will harp on things like this. Ultimately, their worldview is trapped within the confines of a collection of books written by a bunch of racist, homophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic, poorly educated, Bronze Age, middle eastern men. It’s unfortunate that so many people remain trapped by these beliefs.
