So my girl looked at me asked me if the bartender was being racist loud enough that other people could hear. I shook my head at my girl and gave her a look that “I will order our food to wait in the car”. I get it, what the bartender said is tone-deaf of the situation but I think that they were really busy. I also explained to my girl that, yes the bartender said something racist but she doesn’t mean to be racist. I feel like if we would’ve jumped to a conclusion and made a scene, a brown man, along with my girl would’ve got in trouble.

Storytime. Driving to a tourist destination in one of the “free” states, we pass a small-town gas station. We are the only patrons(We are from Punjab, so people guess us as India/Pakistani or Arab). I go to the Pizza counter and decide what to order. There are many toppings, and I am taking my time. Not too much. The server is on her phone, and there is nothing else for her to do. After about 30 seconds she rudely tells me that she hasn’t got all day whether I want to order anything. I just tell her, no it’s okay, I don’t want to order anything. She just flips and tells me “thanks for wasting my time” and leaves the counter.
