I lived right next to the beach in San Francisco for a couple of years. I mean literally right next to the beach, on Great Highway. Not quite as close as in this pic, but… well, anyway, as others have pointed out, there was no avoiding the sand. Everywhere. In my bedsheets, in my food, constantly piling up in the corners.

Maybe I’m just an old geezer but it seems times have changed since the early 2000s. Seems like, nowadays, there’s a good chance those three girls in the picture could be best friends. I’m sure there are still “mean girls” but they seem to be fewer and farther between than in the olden days.
