I also lost any trepidation around sharing a water bottle because of germs and healthy lips touching the same plastic. You could rub the mouth of a tepid Nalgene on your armpit and I would drink it come 4 PM. After six hours of drill in the heat, I would blow a donkey for ice water.

Band camp was two weeks long. I don’t think we wore the uniforms for the camp, but the town stays hot during the marching season. We couldn’t afford new marching uniforms so they repurposed the concert uniforms and those were made of wool.
