We’re allowed to punch in 5 minutes early so that we get all our things together and ready to relieve the worker we’re replacing on the hour. We also have to check employee bags while on the clock. Of course, a manager isn’t always available to run to the back room at the moment a worker wants to leave. It’s easier to just punch out and go find a manager so you not waiting around. As a manager, I think the security check is degrading. If an employee wants to steal, they’re not going to put merchandise where you can find it. Besides, anyone who steals is of bad character and those people don’t last long in a retail environment.

I keep convincing my coworkers to send in pay requests for their breaks. They only have time for 30 out of the allotted 60 minutes of break time that the system automatically removes. I used to do this with my team before and would argue with whoever is approving the requests that this is their right, and unless they remove the automatic one-hour removal, I will keep having my team send requests. Over a week, my coworkers do 2.5 hours extra, for free. I told them not to accept that because it all adds up over a year and it’s their right.
