In the 80s, the White House had an astrologer on hand to give them advice and all sorts of psychics and other modern-day false prophets flooded America’s airwaves pitching themselves as the answer. As much as I like sword and sorcery movies, cinema is often reflective of the culture that creates it, and 80s America really had no issues with accepting magic or blurring the line between science and magic. In the 90s, the acceptance of pseudoscience only got worse as day time television talk shows increasingly brought on “speakers to the dead” and other magic acts as if they were real.
