I’ll throw myself under the bus. I’m nonbinary. I’m more x than y, but not totally the opposite and definitely not what I was born as. It’s not a special snowflake thing- I don’t advertise my identity for attention, in fact, I’m very private about it, but there is strong discomfort about being stuck in the box of my birth sex. Anyone who knows me any length of time will pick up that how I think and act doesn’t match it.

Now, looking at the particular situation you described: if these non-binary people are actually dismissing the lived experience of gay and trans people, then they are wrong. They have no right to say how much of a struggle others have been through. However, if you’re uncomfortable because there is more attention on trans / non-binary than there used to be, then I do think that’s a problem with you.
