We had to have a big budget event movie like Crazy Rich Asians in order to get some Asians on screen and even then, it was still about being Asian. Searching was refreshing because we had an Asian guy on top billing and it didn’t matter that he was Asian. He was just a guy and that’s such an important step in this process.

Searching is such a great movie. The fact that this lead role isn’t written as an Asian role, having stereotypical Asian personality, doing Asian things. It’s a role that could’ve been any ethnicity, just happens that the actor chosen is Asian. I love that.
