Pre-ground coffee sitting on store shelves for months gets stale and nasty fast. Even whole bean sitting on shelves for weeks/months loses its flavor and gets very meh. Find somewhere that roasts coffee within a certain time frame and order whole bean. Use even a basic handheld spice grinder to grind it up.

It’s not an expensive thing really at all. Maybe $12-15 for my preferred coffee (12oz bag) if you find yourself liking a certain coffee there are other ways to enhance things further that does get more spendy
