Beyond this, I don’t really understand why all of these groups are held as one. As a guy who is attracted to guys, I’ve never fully understood how that is relevant to (for example) someone who wants to change gender, is asexual, or doesn’t have a gender they identify with at all. I agree with you that any oppressed people need support and as gay people, we’ve often had experiences that can help us relate to trans or nonbinary groups.

I understand where you’re coming from completely. I have a friend that’s FTM and he’s taught me so much about bravery, resilience, and unapologetically being myself. Watching his courageous soul helped me fully accept myself as gay. We don’t have to understand someone to respect and support their plight to help them fight for safety, but some of the rhetoric I’ve heard is concerning.
