I asked for tools on my 16th birthday. My dad was a diesel mechanic and didn’t make a lot of money, so he cobbled together a bag of his own tools to give me. I was so freaking happy. A few years later I was using those tools to help a friend swap out his clutch. We hit a stopping point for the night and planned to pick it back up in a couple of days. That was the last time I ever saw those tools, as they were stolen by my friend’s friend (I suspect). They weren’t great tools, he couldn’t have gotten more than $20 for the whole bag. They were really only valuable to me.

It doesn’t help that Imgur throws an ad between pic 1 and pic 2. It used to just string them one after the other, but once they decided to become their own full-fledged social network instead of just an image hosting service for Reddit the ads have piled up. Perfect. Also, my father got me tools when I was 12 or so as my primary Christmas present. I was lowkey bummed as a kid. However, as an adult, I still use those tools on a weekly basis and consider it one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten. Give him time, he’ll come to appreciate them.
