You even see this within a state, where there are areas of almost extreme prosperity (think Colorado’s front range vs the western slope) and then you drive a little way out and the story inverts itself. There is a certain level of laziness and malaise in these rural areas that need addressing fast. It isn’t just that our labor is more expensive, which I readily agree it is, it is that our labor isn’t noticeably better for the money.
