I don’t understand what people think the police were supposed to do. They had an arrest warrant for Blake for sexual assault. Someone called the cops because Blake was harassing them, which is why they showed up at all. They didn’t pull him over for speeding. When they tried to arrest him, he fought back. They tried to take him, but it didn’t work. So when he fought them off and reached into his truck, what were the police supposed to do? Can anyone offer a plausible explanation for why someone would get something out of their vehicle in that type of situation other than a weapon? If they calmly waited to see what he was getting, they would have been leaving themselves open to getting stabbed or shot. The fact that Blake did have a knife where he was reaching proves how dangerous that type of situation could be for the cops. If you were a cop in that situation, how would you have handled it?

Not defending the cops, but genuinely asking here because I don’t know the answer. Watching that video the cops had deployed their tasers to little effect. Mr. Blake was reaching into his car where he very well could have had a weapon, he was acting extremely irrationally and violently leading up to the incident, he was at a house where he had a restraining order against him and was causing a disturbance. What should the cop have done in that 20-30 sec window of time? What did Mr. Blake have a responsibility to do in that same window of time? So it’s clear I think the cops are out of control in this country. I have personally been the victim of 2 civil asset forfeitures.
