What was really stupid about it to me was that the movie waited even LONGER than Into Darkness for the “big dramatic reveal”, and it was an even MORE predictable “twist” than Into Darkness. I mean yeah, pretty much everyone knew Cumberbatch was Khan beforehand, but at least theoretically he could have been a different character and the movie could’ve gone in a completely different direction.
But as soon as the Bond movies re-introduced S.P.E.C.T.R.E., and introduced a grand mastermind played by Christoph Waltz, I don’t think anyone who was familiar with the original movies was surprised by the “reveal” of his real name. And the silly thing is that Bond himself, in the context of the scene, has no reason to be shocked by the reveal either, because it’s not like he’s ever heard the name before. Waltz is basically talking directly to the audience. And then, of course, he has to somehow be RELATED to Bond too, because everything is Star Wars now.
