Restaurants who put pictures on their menu generally cater to your well-done eaters, chicken finger having, way past aldente date-night crowd. There’s nothing wrong with that being your business, but anybody who appreciates food on a deeper level jokes about the menu picture thing because, in general, those restaurants serve ordinary/crappy food.

If you’re going to a Chinese restaurant you should have someone who speaks Chinese with you, because otherwise you’re not gonna get the good shit. It’s really important because the waiter is the one who knows what’s fresh (which is what you should be ordering) and they’re not gonna take the time to translate it for you if you’re asking in English.
