So in my case, I’ve done therapy for both insomnia and depression. The therapy for insomnia worked amazingly well. I had regular bouts of insomnia for 10 years+, and haven’t had it since doing therapy, which is now going on 3 years without insomnia. I used to have to deal with a week or two of insomnia maybe once every few months for the decade leading up to that therapy. It’s unbelievable how effective CBT-I was for me.

Depression is another story. I’ve seen multiple therapists and their advice has all been useless, obvious, or something I already knew. I just stopped going because it was a total waste of money. What does help my depression: eating healthy, sleeping properly, regular exercise, don’t work too many hours, try to be social, don’t drink or do drugs. These things merely improve my depression and haven’t resolved it. Sometimes it’s not enough, but I get more benefit from each of these things individually
