When I was your age and in post-secondary school, I wound up getting outed and kicked out by my parents. I had completed 1/4 years and managed to just make the honor roll. My school’s financial aid office had said previously that no qualified student would be denied an education because they can’t afford it, they advised anyone struggling to come to see them and they would make it work. Well, that was basically a lie.

As a white gay man, there was pretty much no support out there. In order to qualify for any need-based funding you had to be gay and a minority or gay and disabled or gay and a woman. Now that I’ve typed all that I’m not entirely sure how it relates… but just an example of not feeling supported by the community.
