Also, consider how disenfranchised civilians already feel when they feel their govts don’t listen to them. There’s so much distrust in the govt looking out for the small guy. I’m not surprised that it’s just plain old futility and pessimism.
If they pull the plug on the program, whichever party and a terrorist attack happen, the opposing party will claim the surveillance program could have prevented that and their opponent was careless in putting a stop to it.
