The real cost is the workers who work in unsafe working conditions, the animals who live in deplorable conditions, and the environmental devastation of huge CAFO sewage ponds, so large you can see them from space you, and off-gassing tons of methane into the atmosphere … Maybe it’s time to rethink ‘cheap’ meat? A pack of 8 hotdogs is what, like $3 at the most and the buns are another $3. So selling 8 hotdogs you spend $6 to make $12 and that’s doesn’t even account for the insanely cheap bulk prices they must be able to get for hotdogs and buns. Even if you factor in labor costs and condiments I can’t see how they lose money.

From one of my friends who is a Costco employee: Supposedly the CEO went on vacation in Mexico and decided to stop by one of the Costco stores down there for a hot dog, only to find that the price (when converted from pesos to dollars) was higher than $1.50. Because of this entire management staff was fired at that store. Nothing but respect for the man and his determination to keep the hotdog affordable. God knows he’s kept a lot of homeless people alive with this pricing scheme. Thank you from those of your hotdogs kept alive.
