Get good beans, from a roaster (I order online). Springwater, or filtered tap. Get a good grinder, a burr mill, not a blade grinder. French press, or pour-over, skip the drip machines. Don’t buy dark roast, it’s just burnt coffee. Starbucks is to blame for people thinking dark roast is “good” coffee. It’s roasted that way to cover up inferior beans. I can understand it’s not for everyone, but I like the flavor. I only add a splash of milk, otherwise, it’s pretty bitter and I live it.
As someone who does invest in the more expensive coffees, I have a coworker who has tried my expensive stuff and still does not like coffee at all. Save your money if you don’t like the cheap stuff and don’t bother. If someone likes coffee they’ll drink most coffee and enjoy them. A more expensive coffee, properly made, tastes better but a cheaper coffee isn’t bad.
