IMO it was more the democrats lost than Trump won. Many (not all, but the loudest) democrats have a “holier than thou” attitude which alienated many moderates/swing votes. Hilary was incredibly unlikeable. Calling anyone who disagreed with them “deplorable” etc. She basically thought she had won and didn’t want to actually campaign and come off as a real likable person. Trump has no shortage of faults, but he is very much “a person” compared to Hilary, who was frequently called a political robot.

Trump has no shortage of faults, but he is very much “a person” compared to Hilary, who was frequently called a political robot. The fault is still in those voters. If your logic is “I feel alienated by the left, so I’m going to vote for a straight-up racist that wants to put people into camps” you are a pretty deplorable person. I do agree that the left has gotten very idiotic and extremely vitriolic, Trump is the worst option between any two evils. Yeah, she wasn’t wrong. She caught flak, but there are plenty of deplorable.
