My dad made a big deal when my siblings and I were each engaged that, if we weren’t sure about going through with it, we could call it off at any time. Even in the back of the church when the ceremony was starting, he checked with us to verify we still wanted to do it. I always knew I wanted to go through with it, but it’s still nice to really know it was my decision and not something I was pushed into. And I know plenty of people who weren’t really sure but felt like it was too late to change their minds.
