It shows such a lack of understanding of the character, of his previous actions, his arc, continuity. Everything. It actually made me laugh out loud when I heard it Na Jaime’s ‘you know I never really cared much for the common people’ was pretty much them spitting in the face of anyone who was invested in that show.
I think the books, if finished, will have him kill Cersei but die in the process. The whole Valonqar prophecy foreshadows the “little brother” choking the life out of Cersei, which Cersei thinks will be Tyrion (since every other prophecy she was told came true), but Jaime is also younger. So he returns to Cersei, which fulfills GRRM’s anti-trope of love conquers all, but dies in the process.
