The Wire may take the most “work” to get into, but in my opinion, it’s the crown jewel of the bunch. The Sopranos and Deadwood have almost no “boring” episodes, and by that I mean they usually fulfill the expectations of the television genre. Fun, crazy, dramatic stuff happens all the time.

It builds slowly, but it’s the most real of the bunch of the dramatic payoff is incredible. I feel like I connected more with the human condition and learned more about the world by watching that show than almost any other media I’ve ever consumed (and I say that as an avid reader of history, science, etc.). It’s a truly incredible work of art, and I can’t recommend it enough.
