I’m super late to this thread and I agree, but in my experience, most people love the idea of a twist. I think it’s just marketing that works most of the time. They get excited knowing something unexpected is going to happen. Sounds contradict part but I’ve heard it a lot haha. That’s why people do what OP is warning against. Many people tell respond positively to knowing that. Just my 2c.
Was talking to an aquintance once and got talking about a video game we both enjoyed but I hadn’t completed yet. He shouted “SPOILER ALERT” and then immediately told me about a twist in the main story.
