The minimum wage still shouldn’t be raised to $15/hr, and it has nothing to do with fast-food workers specifically. The minimum wage had its highest purchasing power in 1968 and was equivalent to $11.76 today. Also, if you increase the minimum wage to $15/hr, not only will it be higher than it has ever been in history, the cost of goods and services will skyrocket. Food, gas, housing, and everything else will go up in cost almost immediately and undo any progress you think you’re making. Meanwhile, people making more than minimum wage will likely not have their pay increased in similar proportion, especially if they only make a small amount more. I know because this has happened to me.

If the minimum wage kept up with inflation they’d be making more like 30 an hour. The minimum wage was established and intended to make a wage floor so that a person could live a decent life on one full-time wage. It’s not and never was just for ‘kids’ and those that say that are helping to contribute to the social decline in America This is probably one of my most controversial opinions, but I don’t think fast food work deserves a ‘living’ wage. Fast-food employees (non-managers) should be kids and those who can’t do much else. Kids don’t need to make a living wage. If you’re out of HS you should be looking for better employment.
