I think a really key point with Eddie is that he grew up pretty poor so he never had many effects he could throw in so he pushed himself pretty hard to improve what he could do. Obviously, there’s a lot of talent in him but I think that drive to “show up” the rich kids is what turned him from an amazing guitar player to an icon.
And it was being poor that led him to tinker with his guitar and amps. His play with amp feedback with his prodigious skill and innovation is what created his unique sound. Shit, he used a drill for the opening of Poundcake. The dude was a musical genius.
