In good faith — I genuinely don’t understand this idea that people shouldn’t be responsible for their debts. To me, this just creates an expectation that people will be bailed out of their next debt. I think there’s a well-studied term that describes this…and we don’t approve of it when organizations are the beneficiaries instead…I will say that the government is absolutely responsible for inflating tuition for everybody, by making money much too easily available and not really asking any questions in the process. Certainly, there are bad actors as well, as the for-profit institutions.
