I wish it didn’t take the deaths of those in their own families to give folks like this pause. If it had happened to a neighbor’s family, I don’t think it would have been enough to change his mind. Instead, it happened to his own family. The next time the advice of the scientific and medical community clashes with his intuition and the voices of the political and religious right, which will he listen to? I wish I could be certain it would be the advice of the scientific and medical community, but I’m not.
I think he loved his tribe so much he was ready to ignore everything except what they told him to believe. I don’t think such people lose loyalty quickly, no matter how badly they are bitten by the consequences of that loyalty. Interesting. I’ll have to rewrite my post so it’s not auto-m – o – d -rated. These people are complicit. They’ve made the situation worse for everyone. Literally no different than telling someone “jump off that cliff, it’s really not a cliff, the (derogatory reference to followers of Lenin and financial non-conservatism) are lying to you, you’ll be fine!”
