All hospitals have a way of prioritizing who gets care when they are at capacity. How it works in practice is extremely unethical (ex., deprioritizing disabled people can be genocide as well as icky) but the idea is sound. If you have 2x capacity cases, someone will need to not get care. Personally, I think this is tailor-made for finding out who didn’t wear masks but were perfectly able to and put them at the back of the line. If there’s space, great, if not, they made their bed. I’m pretty sure it would be considered murder if you interrupted some near-death COVID patient yelling at a nurse about how COVID isn’t real by unplugging them and wheeling
And it’s extra aggravating because the experts are cautiously optimistic that we’re coming to the end. I was just listening to Dr. Fauci on NPR saying they expect to have something like 60 million doses of vaccine to distribute to health care professionals and highest-risk next month. Further rollout of tens or hundreds of millions of more doses will likely be available by spring. Just hold on for a little while longer! No need to mess everything up now!!! My work initially was not going to do Black Friday (we are a store) and I’m honestly terrified to work that entire weekend.
