Now add to that being a teenage girl and made to tell a crusty, creepy old man in private (confession) whether you’ve committed the thought crime of sexual thought, and/or whether you’ve “abused yourself down there” or else face the threat of eternal torment. That’s one thing I don’t understand. Why aren’t Christian guys more offended about how they’re portrayed by their religion? According to the whole “purity” doctrine, guys are animalistic, potential rapists who’ll assault a girl for dressing provocatively. They can’t control their own impulses, their priorities in a relationship are the most superficial and shallow elements imaginable

Like if you believe those “purity” lectures, guys are pretty much garbage. And if they weren’t before, listening to those ideas would turn a guy into the garbage. I’d hope at least SOME guys might object to that. Some of us do, but that kind of realization usually pushes you out of Christianity altogether. I only recently started to engage with Catholicism again because Pope Frankie is out here denouncing capitalism and supporting civil union laws
