The link I found is one side of the story. Right below me is another side of the story. I have no idea which is right. This is a less than one minute clip and then I searched online for some context. In general, I think a lot of us, myself included, respond viscerally to an out-of-context video without knowing much about the situation. My guess, having lived near one of these “squatter” houses for a long time, is that the truth is probably somewhere squarely in the middle. Look up Randy Rappaport and the art-house deal he had on SE Stark. Similar kind of thing.

The “squatters” are the original homeowners and a large group of protestors surrounding them by invitation to defend them against eviction. According to their side of the story, they were double-billed during a period of confusion while their mortgage was being traded among several investment banks. During the process of sorting out that mess, developers took advantage of the situation to buy out the property and try to evict them. There’s quite a bit more and I encourage everyone to read what they have because it’s a lot.
