Social media tricks the brain into thinking it is being social even though it’s not receiving any sensory input. No smells, tastes, physical presence, the list goes on. I’d imagine social media also slowly twists one’s perspective on life to be one of passivity and observation instead of participation. There’s quite a difference between being with people, and simply being around the theme of the social media experience.
