Maybe, I just think that even in WWE it’s very possible for Orton to deliver more than he does. He isn’t held back even by their standards. He comes across like he’s very satisfied with doing the bare minimum and getting paid a lot. They likely don’t feel threatened by NJPW and they see AEW as being distant from NJPW so it’d be a good inroad for something like they do with Evolve, but maybe on a smaller scale. The matchups and how he would wrestle. It did wonders for Mox but we always had a past in the indies. Orton is such a pure WWE.
I can’t tell if I like how in NJPW they set up a counter then do like 5 more seconds of counters before hitting the original one or not. On one hand, it makes it more interesting, but on the other, it seems like overkill sometimes. the product that it would be interesting to see how he adapts anywhere else. I’m pretty sure Okada had beaten Anderson with the tombstone>rainmaker combo before, so Anderson countering the rainmaker after the tombstone is a nod to that. The counters don’t usually happen in first-time matchups but instead are usually callbacks to previous matches.
