I think if taco bell changed their menu names (instead of taco call it ‘tostada doblada’ or ‘quesadilla Tipo tostada’ the people can actually see it as something new and won’t see it as an expensive weirdly made rigid taco, because it’s a way to tell Mexicans that’s not real Mexican food and you don’t attempt it to be seen as such giving a more friendly approach. Because if you compare a taco from there vs a taco in the street corner the difference is huge in both price and taste, but being called differently can make this comparison less a thing. I’m sure a lot of Mexicans are curious about the taste of that crunchy taco, they just feel isn’t worth the high price for a “false taco” they feel ripped off.

I remember going to Taco Inn years ago and it was actually tasty but never went back because it was extremely expensive $150 Mexican peso for 6 tacos al pastor and one canned coke at a time when 1 taco al pastor cost around $6 Mexican peso and the 3L coke cost $25 (now they cost more but is still cheaperWhenever I have the chance to go there I like to eat at taco bell because it’s a different type of food, but the problem is not if is real or not, everyone knows it’s not Mexican foodie the french tacos those are also an aberration to the word but are still tasty but we average Mexicans don’t like to spend too much in food when there’s literally one street food place every corner where you can eat and drink.
