If Biden wins though we can theoretically get back to normal politics. Not that that was amazingly effective before trump but it is infinitely better than this cult of personality we have now. I fear for the immediate days and weeks after the election but I’m super cautiously optimistic for the future if trump can be beaten. I always wondered why they wouldn’t cut mics during candidates’ answers to moderator questions. I mean really they shouldn’t have to, but I think it’s necessary. During the open forum, they can keep mics open but during the allotted time for answering directed questions why not mute the other person’s mic?

Trump has gained his fans and base by being “that guy who says it how it is”. He’s the loud voice of the silent opinions of half this country. If Trump showed up and was meek and passive, that would kill him. His base wants him to show up loud, aggressive, “alpha”. He was on brand. So frankly, I think Trump did “well” in the context that he was himself and he was on brand. For him it’s never about the content of what he says, it’s how he says it.
