Where I live the Yield signs are treated like Stop signs by some. Oh yes. Even when merging onto a highway/freeway in the middle of rush hour. Now everyone behind them must slam on their brakes, at a time when most are speeding up to merge. It creates havoc for all the cars around them while they figure out what this person has stopped in the middle of a highway merge lane! Is their car broken down and we should all go around? Is there an animal in the road that might run into other lanes? Did something just fall off a truck and they can’t proceed in that lane until it’s moved? The possibilities are endless! But no, they just can’t or won’t read that YIELD isn’t STOP!!

It’s also dangerous and can fuck over your fellow drivers physically and legally. I’ve seen a lawsuit where this lovely driver stopped despite no stop sign to politely allow another driver, who had the stop sign, to enter a 2-way stop intersection. Another person in the lane next to the polite driver -didn’t- stop and t-boned the shit out of the car that entered the intersection on polite driver’s insistence. Polite driver? Not involved in the injuries lawsuit. So the driver who didn’t have right of way gets sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars because the polite driver wanted to be nice.
